Mastercard achieves TDIF accreditation for three roles

Mastercard has completed accreditation under the Trusted Digital Identity Framework (TDIF) for three digital identity roles for their ID service.

Leveraging Mastercard’s global network and data privacy practices, ID offers an end-to-end solution for creating, managing, and verifying identities digitally. Using data encryption and biometric authentication to protect personal identity information, it keeps consumers in control of their data, enabling them to choose what information to provide, to which organisations, and when.

Mastercard has received accreditation as an; identity provider for identity proofing level 1+ or Basic, identity exchange and credential provider.

  • Identity providers - help you set up and manage your Digital Identity.

  • Credential providers - play a critical role in keeping the System secure and safe. They take care of credentials such as passwords and other forms of authentication used in the System.

  • Identity exchange - acts like a switchboard, transferring information, with your consent, from the ID network to a relying party, in a way which is secure and respects your privacy.

Mastercard will be required to undergo annual assessments to show they continue to meet the requirements for accreditation under the TDIF.

It’s important to note that accreditation is very different to participation in the System. Organisations can get accredited for various roles and provide digital identity services independent to the Australian Government Digital Identity System. However, any digital identity service that operates inside the System (currently only government agencies) must be accredited.
